Objectif CO2 - Programme EVE

Vitadis, a road freight carrier, has a fleet of own-account road vehicles. The Objective CO2 system makes it possible to sustainably reduce fuel consumption and the associated Greenhouse Gas (Gaz à Effet de Serre : GES) emissions.

The Objective CO2 system is the only national system offering companies a global and structuring reference in terms of reducing greenhouse gases and atmospheric pollutants from their transport activities.

In 2010, we signed the ADEME's Objective CO2 charter: the aim was to make a 3-year commitment to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions. Vitadis Transport and Logistics renewed this commitment in 2022. The charter responds to growing demand from shippers for a substantial reduction in their CO2 emissions.

This charter sends very clear information to shippers since, specific to the world of transport and its specific requirements, it guarantees the carrier's commitment to the environment.

On December 15, 2022, Vitadis obtained the Objective CO2 Label, which promotes the environmental performance of freight carriers.

In what context ?

The transport sector is the second most energy-consuming sector in France after construction. It accounted for approximately 34% of final energy consumption in France in 2015. In terms of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, transport is the leading emitting sector with 29% of emissions in 2015.
It is the private car that contributes the most to the energy and environmental balance of the transport sector. This is followed by professional road transport of goods (trucks, light commercial vehicles) and collective passenger transport (coaches and buses).

It is essential to substantially improve the energy efficiency of road transport to achieve the objectives set by France's national low-carbon strategy. Compared to 2013, the objective in the reference scenario is to reduce GHG emissions from transport by 29% by 2030 and by at least 70% by 2050.

These results will only be achievable if all professional road transport players are committed to a dynamic of progress in their energy performance. To reach these companies, it is necessary to be as close as possible to them in the territories.

It is necessary to involve at the same time the principals (shippers and commission agents) and their transport service providers, which are the carriers, so that they can act individually on their own levers, but also collectively within the framework of actions collaborative.

The CO2 Objective charter

The Objective CO2 charter supports carriers in reducing their GHG emissions. After a self-assessment and a CO2 diagnosis, the company draws up a personalized action plan with the help of a regional project manager. It undertakes to act and signs a charter of commitment for 3 years.

The company benefits from:
  • operational tools to assess emissions:
    • key indicators to monitor progress;
    • the calculation of GHG emissions in accordance with the requirements of the decree “GHG information for transport services”;
    • a secure digital space to assess, manage and reduce its emissions.
  • a proven methodology:
    • more than 60 solutions proposed in the action sheets;
    • technical descriptions;
    • Publication of implementation advice.
  • support from regional project managers:
    • support for CO2 diagnostics;
    • assistance in drawing up a personalized action plan over 3 years;
    • monitoring progress.

The benefits of our ecological and civic approach

-> A BENEFIT FOR THE ENVIRONMENT

By reducing GES and atmospheric pollutant emissions, Vitadis contributes to the fight against climate change and local pollution.

-> A BENEFIT FOR THE TRANSPORT SECTOR

Our positive approach contributes to the promotion and attractiveness of the profession.

-> AN ECONOMIC BENEFIT

Vitadis actions aimed at reducing our CO2 emissions have a direct impact on our fuel costs.

-> A COMMERCIAL BENEFIT

Vitadis meets the expectations of customers aware of environmental issues and we can provide them with the required CO2 information such as the carbon impact.

-> A HUMAN BENEFIT

Vitadis unites its teams around a structuring citizen approach.

Concrete results

Since 2008, more than 1,400 companies (1,170 goods transport companies and 240 road passenger transport companies) have signed up to the Objectif CO2 program.

The result: a positive economic balance sheet!
Up to 5% FUEL SAVINGS by limiting the maximum speed of a vehicle to 80km/h;
up to 10% FUEL SAVINGS by training drivers in eco-driving.

The Objective CO2 label

Objectives of the label:

In 2013, the evaluation of the “Objective CO2 – Carriers get involved” charter system highlighted the possibility of implementing a label arising from the founding principles of the charter. The objectives of the label are multiple:

  • Promote the most efficient transport companies in terms of managing and controlling CO2 emissions;
  • Increase the readability of the system in order to encourage new carriers to commit to initiatives to reduce their CO2 emissions;
  • In general, create a virtuous circle for the entire profession.

The label also makes it possible to establish the actual performance in terms of CO2 emissions of the carriers' fleet of vehicles by means of periodic audits (verification of figures) and to standardize the methods and evaluation criteria.

The objective of this standard, drawn up by ADEME, the Ministry for Ecological Transition, responsible for Transport, in consultation with transport companies and professional organizations representing the sector, is to describe the requirements that companies must meet to be eligible for the label.
